 Malachite is a Copper carbonate that appears opaque with green colored banding. Originally, Malachite was used as a mineral pigment in green paints, but now is used for more decorative purposes and can be found in renowned museums such as the Hermitage. Individual Malachite crystals are rare to come by, but when found are used as both ornamental stones and gemstones. In the Middle Ages, Malachite was believed to protect against the “Evil Eye”, while Russian Czars used Malachite for ornaments and paneling for their castles.
